Andrea Caneschi graduated in Chemistry in 1983 at the University of Firenze, where he also got his PhD in Chemical Sciences in 1989, discussing a thesis on the “Metal-radical approach to molecular magnetic systems”. He was Aggregate Professor of Chemistry (Italian art. 100), at the Università della Calabria, Cosenza, 1989 – 1991. In the period 1991 – 2004 he was Researcher at the Università di Firenze, Faculty of Farmacy and, since 2004, he is Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Dipartimento di Chimica “Ugo Schiff” of the Università di Firenze. At the national selection of 2012 and 2013 he received qualification for the Full Professor position in two different areas, SSD 03/B1 Fundamental knowledge in chemical sciences and inorganic systems and SSD 03/B2 Fundamental knowledge of the chemical technologies. During his career he spent 6 months in 1982 at the Université de Paris Sud, France, 12 months in 1984 at the Centre d’Etudes Nucleaires, Grenoble, France, and 12 months at M.I.T., Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A. At present he teaches General Chemistry and Practical Lab courses for Master degree students in Pharmacy.

He is Director of INSTM Consortium, the National Inter-University Consortium for Materials Science and Technology, since 2012. Member of the boards of the European Institute of Molecular Magnetism, EIMM and of the Steering Committee of CRElio and CRIST (University of Florence); Deputy director of eCAMM. He was chairman of the Technical-Scientific Committee of the Polo Toscano Nanotechnology and at present of the consortium company GRINT (Research Group Nanotechnology Innovation Toscano). Member of the Direction board of the Distretto Toscano Nuovi Materiali - DTMATE.
